Brent Holt grew up in the Midwest on a large wheat/livestock farm that has been in his family for several generations. Mr. Holt is the proud father of two boys, Logan and Sam. Mr. Holt attended Pittsburg State University where he received his bachelor of Science degree in 1981 in Mechanical Engineering Technology and started his aerospace engineering career immediately after graduating.
Mr. Holt worked as a senior design engineer for several engineering companies across the United States and Canada. These companies include Boeing, Martin Marietta, Lockheed, Northup, and Bell Helicopter. Projects included commercial airliners, commercial helicopters, advanced tactical fighter, and the V-22 Tilt Rotor aircraft.
After fifteen years of engineering design experience, Mr. Holt moved into management and became an Engineering manager for approximately five years. Eventually Mr. Holt obtained his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech and will graduate with his PhD in STEM education in 2008.
Mr. Holt is endorsed in Mathematics, Physics, and Technology Education and taught several years at Eastern Montgomery High School near Elliston, VA where he taught a range of subjects from the three endorsed content areas.
Personal interests include long distance bike riding, running, and triathlons, backpacking, mountain climbing, and martial arts. Professional interests include the study of teacher and student self efficacy beliefs, and how they influence learning; developing integrated math and science labs for hands-on exploration; working with students to develop outstanding science fair projects; promoting students to develop a love for mathematics and physics.
